Welcome Back from the Pre-Law Center!

 

We hope you’ve had an amazing summer!  But now it’s time to hit the books and build up your GPA.  There are LOTS of things to look forward to this semester and we’re including some good things here for you to add to your calendars!

The Pre-Law Center will be hosting a booth at the Maverick Cookout & Activity Day in the University Center Mall with fun games and prizes during the Thursday, August 31st from 10:30am to 1:00pm.  Stop by for fun, games and prizes or just to say hello.  Don’t forget to bring a friend!

The AT&T-Haynes & Boone Mentorship Program has returned for another year! Students will be treated with the opportunity to go to Dallas for the day to have one-on-one conversations with a mentoring attorney from AT&T and Haynes & Boone.  In the meeting, you can learn how to land the legal job of your dream, how to get your resume past HR, and how to successfully build your personal brand in college and law school!  This year’s event will even feature professional headshots for all participants following lunch with the attorneys!!!

Have a class meeting during this time?? No problem! Because this is a prestigious university program, University Excuse Letters can be provided to students in attendance, so sign up today!!

Ebony M. Turner Law is Seeking to Fill Paid Internship Position!!

Court Intern

-          Description: Will support Attorney Turner in attending Tarrant County hearings, conducting critical research for trial, preparing essential court documents, assisting with trial technology and supporting the needs of the firm and clients throughout the trial process.  Other tasks as assigned.

Hours: Flexible Hours

-          Location: Multiple (Mansfield/Dallas/Fort Worth)

INTRODUCING THE EMT LAW FUTURE LAWYERS INTERN PROGRAM

Introducing the newly launched Future Lawyers Internship Program sponsored by the Law Office of Ebony M. Turner, designed to allow students an immersive experience in law practice for course credit during the Spring 2024 semester. Students selected to participate in this program will be placed at various law firms in the DFW area for course credit through the HIST 4391 Legal Service Learning Internship Course in Spring 2024. Interns will also receive pay through this experience if invited to continue beyond the spring semester into the summer.  Priority will be given to Law and Legal Studies Minors needing experiential learning credit but students do not need to be LLS minors to apply.

  • POLSINELLI LAW LSAT PREP COURSE SCHOLARSHIP

We are excited to see the return of the LSAT Prep Course Scholarship.  These scholarships are for currently enrolled students or recent graduates of the class of December 2022/May 2023 who are preparing for the LSAT this Fall 2023 or Spring 2024. These awards will cover the entire cost of a Complete Live Online LSAT Fundamentals preparatory course for the Fall 2023 semester. The scholarships are each worth approximately $1,500.00.

Preference will be given to students:

1.      who have taken a practice LSAT test;

2.      who are of junior or senior standing, or recent graduate at UTA at the time of the application;

3.      based on GPA; UTA averages of 3.5 and above are given first priority; and,

4.      who can demonstrate (via a one-two paragraph essay) a financial need for the prep course.

Applications are NOW OPEN.

The deadline to apply is Sunday, October 15th so mark it in your calendar

If you’re wanting to take the October LSAT, make sure you register by August 31st!  The deadline is quickly approaching so be sure to head to LSAC ASAP!

New to LSAC? Create your free account today at www.lsac.org.  The Law School Admissions Council is your first step towards getting ready for the law school application process. You’ll need this to register for the LSAT and apply to law school.  National Pre-Law events are updated regularly

Women In Law

Women in Law is meeting and looking for new members!  This organization is open to all majors and seeks to provide resources to advance women’s interest in the legal world. Students can look forward to bi-monthly meetings, socials, the WIL Speaker Series and each semester the WIL Spring Retreat!  The 2023 April Spring Retreat at the Sheraton Arlington is in the books and was amazing!

Meetings will be held bi-weekly on Wednesdays at noon in the Pre-Law Center.

For over fifty years, the National Black Law Students Association has worked to develop culturally responsible Black and minority law students that excel academically, succeed professionally, and positively impact the community. NBLSA members are activists, thought leaders, and strategic thinkers. NBLSA alumni are partners, general counsel, judges, non-profit executives, and business operatives.

Pre-Law NBLSA meetings will be held bi-weekly in the Pre-Law Center on Thursdays at 3:30pm.

Fall Mini Law School:  New Faces

Hello from Colorado Law!
 
Earlier this spring, I reached out about a program through the University of Colorado Law School that is an excellent opportunity for your students – Mini Law School. This fall's curriculum will highlight seven exciting new faculty members joining Colorado Law from law schools around the country.  I wanted to remind you that registration closes soon - September 2.

The seven-week series kicks off Wednesday, September 6 with Professor Blake Reid's discussion of Big Tech and Section 230.  Each week, a Colorado Law professor will present on a different topic, including:  

  • States as Immigration Battlegrounds  (Professor Deep Gulasekaram)
  • Foreign Policy and Criminal Prosecution (Professor Wadie Said)
  • Digital Technologies and Human Rights:  Friends or Foes? (Clinical Professor Vivek Krishnamurthy)
  • National Security as Police Power (Professor Maryam Jamshidi)
  • The Contagiousness of Police Violence (Professor Daria Roithmayr)
  • and more!

Participants have 3 ways to join us:  (1) live, in person in Boulder, Colorado at the University of Colorado Law School; (2) live, online via a livestream of the lectures; or (3) watching recordings of the lectures on demand on their own schedule.  Participants can also register to access the entire back catalog of available Mini Law School lectures!

As an additional benefit, all participants in Mini Law School who apply to the University of Colorado Law School will have their law school application fees waived
