Stephanie Rasmussen is an Associate Professor in the Department of Accounting. She earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Minnesota State University Moorhead, MBA from the University of Tennessee Knoxville, and PhD in accounting from Texas A&M University. Prior to pursuing doctoral studies, Dr. Rasmussen worked in the finance and accounting department at ON Semiconductor in Phoenix, Arizona. Key positions she held at ON include Sales and Marketing Controller and Cost Accounting Manager. She joined the University of Texas at Arlington as an Assistant Professor in 2009.
Dr. Rasmussen’s primary research interest is the implication of financial reporting oversight provided by audit committees, auditors, short sellers, shareholders, regulators, and other parties. She has also examined specific accounting choices made by companies including revenue recognition, restatements, and auditor choice. Her research has been presented at several academic conferences and appears in journals such as Contemporary Accounting Research; Accounting Horizons; Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance; and The Journal of Corporate Finance. She is the recipient of the 2017 College of Business Distinguished Research Publication Award.
Dr. Rasmussen’s primary teaching interest is managerial accounting.She is the recipient of the 2012 College of Business Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award (tenure-track faculty) and was inducted into the UTA Academy of Distinguished Teachers in 2017.During the 2015-2016 academic year, she was a Fellow of the LINK Research Lab Professional Learning Community on Blended Learning.
