Syllabus: Philosophy

Harry P. Reeder received his B.A. with High Honors in Liberal Arts and Distinction in Philosophy from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana in 1968. He went on to earn an M.A. (1975) and a Ph.D. (1977) in Philosophy from the University of Waterloo, Ontario. Before coming to UTA he taught at the University of Guelph (Ontario), Wilfrid Laurier University (Ontario) and the University of Alberta (Alberta). He joined the Philosophy faculty at UT Arlington in 1982, and he has subsequently taught at several universities in Colombia, S.A. His research interests include the philosophy of language, the philosophy of science, and critical thinking, especially from a phenomenological and hermeneutic point of view. He has presented research in eight countries on four continents and his work has been published in four languages. His publications range from the relation between language, concepts, logic and history to natural and social scientific method and transcultural communication. He was awarded the University of Texas System Chancellor’s Council Award for Excellence in Teaching in 1991, and the Outstanding Academic Advisor Award in 2007.
