Stacy Alaimo earned her Master’s degree in English from the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and her PhD in English (along with a Certificate in Critical Theory) at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. She has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in multicultural literatures of the United States; introduction to textual analysis and interpretation; critical theory; feminist theory; cultural studies; environmental literature, film, and theory, and science studies at The University of Texas at Arlington. She was awarded the Alicia Wilkerson Smotherman Faculty Award in 2009 and the Chancellor's Council Award for Excellence in Graduate Teaching in 2008. She directs, and has directed, many Master’s theses and doctoral dissertations, and has served as an external reader for dissertations, both nationally and internationally. She currently serves as the academic co-chair of the University’s Sustainability Committee.
Dr. Alaimo has published widely on American literature, environmental humanities, science studies, and feminist theory. Her publications include Undomesticated Ground: Recasting Nature as Feminist Space (Cornell 2000); Material Feminisms, edited with Susan J. Hekman (Indiana 2008), and Bodily Natures: Science, Environment, and the Material Self (Indiana 2010). She has been invited to give plenary and symposium talks across the globe and was a Quadrant Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study at the University of Minnesota, fall of 2009. She is currently working on a book tentatively titled Sea Creatures and the Limits of Animal Studies: Science, Aesthetics, Ethics.
