Richard Ferrier is a registered architect, a registered interior designer, and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. He has taught at UT Arlington since 1968, serving as Associate Dean from 1985 to 1995. His work is in the permanent drawing collections of the University of Houston, the Frito-Lay Corporation, the American Institute of Architects National Archives in Washington, D.C., and the United States Library of Congress: Architecture Drawing Archives. Recognitions include ten AIA/Dallas Design Awards, forty-eight AIA/Dallas Drawing Awards, twelve Texas Architect Drawing Awards, twelve Competition Awards from the American Society of Architectural Perspectivists, and First Prize, 1990, in the Compact House National Design Competition. Ferrier lectures and serves as visiting critic widely and as a juror for numerous design and drawing competitions.

Professor Ferrier received his Bachelor of Architecture from Texas Tech University in 1968 and his Master of Arts in Art from the University of Dallas in 1972. He practices as Richard B. Ferrier, FAIA, and as principal of Firm X, Arlington-Dallas.

Ferrier co-edited the Architecture Merit Badge Handbook for the Boy Scouts of America. His work has been published in Composite Drawing, Architecture in Perspective, Designing Interiors, Hand Drawn Worlds, Visionary Architecture, Texas Architect, Texas Homes, Texas Business, Interiors, and Architectural Record.
