ACES Program ACES President's Celebration of Academic Excellence

The Annual Celebration of Excellence by Students (ACES) symposium is a university-wide, daylong event that occurs in late March. ACES showcases the best of our students' research and creativity. Undergraduate and graduate students work with faculty mentors in their disciplines to write and submit abstracts for the competition. The approved abstracts are then turned into oral presentations or posters to be presented at the symposium.

Faculty from programs across the campus, graduate alumni, and community members serve as our ACES judges. Our prizewinners are recognized both at an awards ceremony at the end of the day and at the annual President's Celebration of Academic Excellence. First, second, and third-place awards, as well as two honorary mentions, are given in each of the following categories: morning graduate oral presentation, afternoon graduate oral presentation, morning undergraduate oral presentation, and afternoon undergraduate oral presentation. First, second, and third-place awards are given in each of the graduate poster and undergraduate poster categories.

OneBook Competition at ACES 2009
This year at ACES, a contest will be held in which students will give oral presentations about the UT Arlington OneBook. This contest will be under the ACES umbrella, but will be judged separately from the larger ACES competition. Any UT Arlington undergraduate student is welcome to give a presentation in this competition. The OneBook presentations will be judged by a panel of faculty members and a monetary prize will be awarded for the best presentation. All ACES deadlines apply. Please indicate your affiliation with the OneBook competition by clicking the OneBook checkbox on the registration page.

Past winners have presented research on gene therapy, business relations, army recruiting, pain control, better tools for builders, history, philosophy, biochemistry, engineering. They have presented works of art, literature, music, and stage performances. ACES is truly an interdisciplinary event in which any student from any program can participate.
