The UT Arlington community anxiously awaits the opening of College Park Center, the University's new $78 million special events center, on February 1.

The building will house UT Arlington's basketball and volleyball teams, graduation ceremonies, big name speakers and concerts.  The center opens on February 1, 2012 as the men's and women's basketball teams face off against division rival UT San Antonio.

This year the University will offer basketball tickets to the community free of charge.  Tickets can be reserved at www.utatickets.com.

A large spring concert is also in the works.

College Park Center is the cornerstone of the larger College Park District which include a parking garages, a new residence hall, apartment building, mixed-use retail, and the Dan Dipert University Welcome Center.  The other elements of the district will open in time for the fall 2012 semester.

Transfer scholarship deadline approaching quickly

Last year UT Arlington awarded more than $12 million in scholarship monies to qualified students, but in order to be eligible for merit-based scholarships students need to be admitted on or before February 15, 2012.

Eligible transfer students need to apply for admission and be admitted before the February deadline. There is no additional scholarship application for any of UT Arlington's general academic scholarships. Scholarships are available only for students beginning classes in the fall of 2012.  UT Arlington does not offer general academic scholarschips for students beginning in the spring or summer semesters.

Awards range from $1,000 to $3,000 annually and can be renewed for up to two years.  General academic scholarships are awarded based on cumulative transfer grade point average. A list of general academic scholarships is available online at www.uta.edu/scholarships.

Several supplemental merit-based scholarships are also available, including designated scholarships and academic departmental scholarships. These scholarships may require supplemental applications and may have different deadlines for application materials.

Incoming students can apply for admission at the Apply Texas website. They must pay the $50 application fee and provide official college transcripts from all colleges and universities attended.
