Princeton Review ranks UT Arlington among best

The Princeton Review has chosen UT Arlington as one of the 122 schools featured in the "Best of the West" section of its "2013 Best Colleges: Region by Region."

College ratings are based on academics, admissions selectivity, financial aid, and quality-of-life factors. The service also surveys students online and by mail.

The Best Regional Colleges section of The Princeton Review’s website features 633 colleges divided into four geographic areas. The chosen schools represent 25 percent of the four-year colleges in the U.S. The site says the schools “stand out as academically excellent institutions of higher learning.”

The review lists biology, business administration, and management as some of the most popular majors at UT Arlington.

The site features a “Students Say” section that lauds the University’s individualized attention from professors and says, “The professors will tell a student from day one to feel free to contact them if they need help with anything; this is very beneficial and shows that they want to help the students succeed.”

College Park District opens

The University of Texas at Arlington kicked off the fall 2012 semester with an exciting new addition to the campus landscape, the much anticipated College Park District!

College Park District is a 20-acre, $160 million, mixed-use development that serves both UTA students and the greater Arlington community. The main attraction of College Park District is the spectacular College Park Center. This facility serves as the home court for UTA’s basketball and volleyball teams, as well as a venue for concerts, guest speakers, commencement ceremonies, and various community events.

In addition to College Park Center, the District houses UT Arlington’s Dan Dipert University Welcome Center, the headquarters for campus tours and a great place for visitors to get to know the university. Hundreds of lucky UTA students call College Park District home by residing in one of two new housing facilities, Vandergriff Hall and The Lofts.

Pie Five Pizza Co. is the first of many restaurants to open in College Park District. Frozen yogurt, tacos, Mediterranean food, a sports bar and more are soon to follow. Restaurant patrons never have to worry about parking, given the 1,800 spaces available in three different garages.

Services expand in response to community needs

UT Arlington administrators and Student Council President, Jennifer Fox, announced expanded services as the result of research completed by a committee of faculty, staff, and students this summer.

The committee identified services that could be improved and recommended changes.

As a result, Dining Services expanded the hours for The Plaza, Connection Café, and Einstein Bros.

Campus Shuttle service and security escort services have been extended to nearby, off-campus apartment complexes, like Maverick Place, CampusEdge, and MidTown Apartments, Assistant Police Chief Rick Gomez said. The Green south shuttle route now runs through 10:30 p.m.

Later this semester, security escort services will expand to 3 a.m. on Monday through Friday mornings.

A new MavMobile mini shuttle offers rides between the College Park District garages and the E.H. Hereford University Center.

A student survey this fall will focus on other topics addressed by the committee, including later hours once a week for University offices most needed by students.

Frank Lamas, V.P. for Student Affairs, says work is in progress for later hours for shuttle operations, dining services available during special events and holidays, a call center to answer a broad range of questions, and a marketing campaign about student services created by a UT Arlington marketing class.
