Q: Do I have to fill out a separate application for the Gateway Advantage Program?
A: No. If you haven't completed a regular application for admission, you may do so
online.
You still must submit your application fee, official high school transcript, and official test scores (SAT or ACT).
Q: Are all students who do not qualify for regular admission offered the Gateway Advantage Program?
A: No. Students who are not offered regular admission are reviewed by the Office of Admissions and Records.
Students are selected based on their entire academic record. Typically, those who fall just below minimum admission requirements will be
offered the Gateway Advantage program if there is still space available. Students not offered the program will receive a letter of denial.
In the meantime, should the Office of Admissions and Records receive a new high school transcript or test scores which qualify you for
regular admission or the Gateway program, a new letter will be sent to you.
Q: About how many new Gateway students enter the program each Fall?
A: 225-250 new students enter the Gateway program every Fall.
Q: If I'm selected for the Gateway program, what's next?
A: Students are accepted into the Gateway program with a letter from the Office of Admissions and Records.
This letter will tell them to read, sign, and return an enclosed "Gateway Program Agreement." Failure to return the agreement by the date
indicated in the letter will disqualify you from the program.
An essential component of the Gateway program is attending any of the scheduled New Maverick Orientation programs during the summer for Fall admits and January for spring admits. Attending one of the orientation programs is required for all new Gateway Advantage students. Before you come to orientation, make sure you have satisfied the requirements of the Texas Success Initiative (TSI) either by exemption or by taking the THEA exam. You will not be permitted to register for classes at orientation unless you have satisfied this requirement. Please visit Testing Services for more information.
STEP ONE: Return your Gateway Advantage Program agreement by the date indicated in the letter.
STEP TWO: Reserve a space at one of the New Maverick Orientation dates.
Q: Should I wait until I hear if I'm accepted into the Gateway Advantage Program to apply for on-campus
housing?
A: No. You can fill out an on-campus housing application at any point in time.
Fill out a UT Arlington housing application.
Q: Are new Gateway students selected for every semester?
A: No. The Gateway Advantage Program only accepts new students for the Fall semester.
Q: I've been accepted into the Gateway Program, but I've misplaced my Gateway Program agreement. Can I get
another one online?
A: Yes. Print out the
Gateway Program agreement (PDF), complete and sign it, and mail it to the
Office of Admissions. Only mail us this form if you've already received your letter from us indicating your admittance into the Gateway
Advantage Program.
Q: What are the requirements of the program when I enroll?
A: The requirements are the following:
Students who earn less than a 2.0 GPA at the end of the first semester will be dismissed and will be eligible to return to UT Arlington upon completion of 24 transferable semester credit hours and a 2.0 GPA or higher from another college or university. Dismissed students may appeal this decision to the Gateway Program Appeal Committee.
Q: What services does the UT Arlington provide to help ensure my success in the Gateway Advantage
program?
A: To increase your chances of success, you will meet with a Gateway advisor at orientation and then several
times during your first semester. Additionally, there are a wide range of campus resources such as tutoring, a mentoring program called
UTA Hosts!, and counseling services available to you. Visit the
Student Success Maverick Resources page for more information.
Q: Will the university notify me if I am not admitted into the Gateway Program?
A: Yes, the university will notify all students if they have been denied admission to the university
(including the Gateway program).
If you are not admitted to the Gateway Advantage Program, you are encouraged to visit with an Admissions Counselor in the Office of Admissions to discuss options on how to transfer to UT Arlington as a Freshman with college work for spring or as a traditional transfer to UT Arlington in the fall of the following year.
Q: If I'm not accepted into the Gateway Program, can I still attend UT Arlington at a later date?
A: Sure. Just attend any college or university and obtain 24 hours with a minimum 2.25 GPA. Then,
re-apply to UT Arlington, have your transcripts sent to UT Arlington,
and we'll re-evaluate you as a transfer student.
