Success Initiative

What is the Success Initiative?

The Texas Success Initiative has been developed by the state legislature to ensure student success at institutions of higher education. The two major steps of the program are:

• assessment of each student’s academic skills in Reading, Writing, and Math before enrolling and,

• advisement into appropriate developmental coursework for any academic skills that need improvement.

Transfer Course Completion

If you have transferred to UTA from a private or independent institution of higher education or an accredited out-of-state institution of higher education (including international institutions) and have satisfactorily completed college-level coursework, you could be exempt from part or all of the Success Initiative requirement.

Final approval of this type of completion is determined by Admissions evaluators from an official transcript. For questions about this area of exemption, contact the Office of Admissions, Orientation and Recruitment at
817.272.6287 (MAVS)

Writing
You might be exempt from the Writing section if you have achieved a grade of C or higher in ENGL 1301, 1302; any 4 credit hour course with similar requirements; or two, 2 credit hour courses with similar requirements from an institution on the quarter system.

Reading
Completion in Reading is fulfilled with a grade of C or higher in any Literature, World or US History, Psychology, Political Science, Sociology, Philosophy or courses for which these are a pre-requisite.

Math
Completion in Math is fulfilled with a grade of C or higher in College Algebra or any course for which this is a pre-requisite.
