ARLINGTON—University of Texas at Arlington President James Spaniolo will welcome South African Ambassador to the United States, Her Excellency Barbara Masekela, to the UT Arlington campus at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 2, following her keynote luncheon address at the inaugural Texas-Africa Business Summit in Dallas.
Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, the leadership of the Arlington Chamber of Commerce and the UT Arlington deans of liberal arts and business will also meet with Ambassador Masekela to explore partnerships between South Africa and Arlington—including tourism, education and a sister-city relationship.
The summit, which begins Tuesday, Nov. 1, is aimed at bringing business, government and education communities together to promote and foster trade, relationships and knowledge with Texas and Africa.
UT Arlington’s Africa Program, a co-sponsor of the summit, has arranged Ambassador Masekela's visit to the campus. The ambassador will be accompanied by the Economic Counselor in the South African Embassy, Gareth Rees.
