On Monday, April 8, 2002, as part of UTA’s Academic Excellence Week, Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka - Nigerian playwright, poet and social activist - gave the Second Distinguished African Lecture to a standing-room-only crowd in the University’s Rosebud Theatre. Professor Soyinka spoke on, “The Politics of Art.” The Lecture was jointly sponsored by the Honors College, Office of the Provost, Office of Multicultural Services, and the Departments of History, English, and Political Science.
