ARCHAEOLOGY OF ANCIENT EGYPT
Conspectus
This course surveys the culture of ancient Egypt from its earliest occupation until the Arab invasion in the 7th century AC. Emphasis is on the first twenty dynasties (3rd - 2nd millennia BC). Egyptian social, religious, economic and political development are investigated through the surviving material culture ( industries, architecture, art, artifacts of daily life, funerary remains, etc.), supplemented by historical and literary evidence as pertinent. Egypt's relations with neighboring regions (the Aegean, Anatolia, Syria-Palestine, Nubia) receive attention.
Prerequisites: none, although ANTH 2339: Principles of Archaeology, taken previously or concurrently, will surely enhance your learning experience.
