courses requiring laptops
Architecture Program Course(s):
Arch 3343: Design Communication III (Professor Rusher) is a required introductory undergraduate course aimed at teaching students to relate digital communication skills with design process.
This class investigates the nature of the digital realm as an environment in which to analyze and synthesize design concepts. Students are introduced to two- and three-dimensional digital design tools as a complement to traditional hand drawing/ drafting techniques.
General familiarity with computers is assumed of students enrolling in this course; however, familiarity with the software used in the course is not. In addition to software to protect student data from malware, spyware or virus attacks, students enrolling in Arch 3343 are expected to configure their laptop with AutoDesk Autocad 2007 Student Edition, Adobe Systems: Photoshop CS3 and Autodessys: FormZ v.6.5 software in the successful execution of in-class, in-studio and homework assignments.
Landscape Architecture Program Courses:
LARC 5350: Landscape Architecture Computer Applications (Professor Fain) is a required introductory graduate course aimed at teaching the theories as well practices underlying the application of computer aided design to the practice of Landscape Architecture.
Site Analysis, design development, construction documentation and applications pertinent to office management and cost estimating are investigated.
General familiarity with computers is assumed of students enrolling in this course; however, familiarity with the software used in the course is not. In addition to software to protect student data from malware, spyware and virus attacks, students enrolling in LARC 5350 are expected to configure their laptop computer with AutoDesk: Autocad 2007 Student Edition and the Eagle Point software add-on/ plug-in for irrigation design, planting plans and site planning in the successful execution of in-class, in-studio and homework assignments.
LARC 5351: Advanced Computer Aided Design (Professor Hopman) is a required graduate course aimed at extending knowledge and skills acquired in LARC 5350.
Traditional hand drawing design techniques are investigated and compared with computer aided techniques. Students also examine data standards, methods of translation, layering of design information and connections between phases in design processes.
General familiarity with computers is assumed of students enrolling in this course; however, familiarity with the software used in the course is not. In addition to software to protect student data from malware, spyware and virus attacks, students enrolling in LARC 5351 are expected to configure their laptop computer with AutoDesk: Autocad 2007 Student Edition, Adobe Systems: Photoshop CS3, Microsoft: Windows Moviemaker and Windows Photo Story 3 as well as McNeel: Accurender version 4.0 in the successful execution of in-class, in-studio and homework assignments.
All students purchasing laptop computers and software are cautioned that there are differences between the installed software base in the OIT and School of Architecture Computer Graphics Labs as well as the software required by faculty for students using laptops in their courses. For instance, some specialized software packages like Accurender are only available in the School of Architecture Computer Graphics Lab. In other words there are differences due to hardware and software changes and upgrades occurring on different schedules. Students enrolling in any required or elective School of Architecture course are urged to review the most current course syllabus carefully for the versions of required software and add-on/ plug-in software packages for the course. Students should double check with the instructor in order to verify software titles and versions prior to purchase.
