This year's off-site tours are designed to glimpse the urban and rural environment that north Texans call home. From dinosaur tracks to elegant private gardens, these tours (all with limited enrollments) will be led by guides with expertise in the subject matter.
Edge City and Regional Growth Tour
Mr. David Retzsch - guide
Established and emerging edge cities are examined according to Garreau's (1991) criteria. The Ft. Worth and Dallas Central Business Districts, along with Solana (Westlake,) Legacy Drive (Plano,) the Galleria (Dallas,) Telecom Corridor (Richardson,) and Los Colinas (Irving) are featured, offering the widest geographic exposure to the area of any off-site tour, and including headquarters sites of major national and international corporate campuses.
Box lunch included Limited to 25 persons $43.00
Environmental Art Tour
Mr Gary Robinette - guide
The controversial, the extraordinary, the well-known and the exotic are among the works examined on this environmental art tour of the metropolitan area. Both public and private sites are visited, examining interesting histories and "goings-on" which led to their creation. Relationships between art and environment, environment as art, and public attitudes about the environment and art also are explored.
Box lunch included Limited to 20 persons $43.00
Ft. Worth Private Garden Tour
Ms Cantey Ferchill - guide
The secret and sometimes sacred spaces of private residential gardens are examined on this rare opportunity to visit four-to-six of the city's most palatial, unusual and secured addresses. Relationships between owners and designers, design programs and client preferences are discussed. Security and courtesy make it necessary to limit enrollment to 15. Lunch (possibly in the gardens at Joe T. Garcia's restaurant) at beginning of tour. $48.00
Trinity River Canoe Trip
This trip will put-in above the Dallas CBD, ending below the Great Trinity Forest, a re-generated bottomland hardwood forest near the city's core. A tour guide will explain the political history of the river's use and abuse, and will interpret dynamics of the river system and its flora and fauna. Bring rain gear just in case.
Box lunch included. Limited to 20 persons $60.00
Dallas Private Garden Tour
Ms Kathy Gilson - guide
This limited tour includes four to six outstanding residential gardens in the city. Histories of each garden and its design program are presented, including information on the needs and preferences of the unique and (in some cases) well-known personalities who own them.
