| THE GEORGE S. WRIGHT
ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP The School of Architecture at The University of Texas at Arlington is establishing and endowed student scholarship fund to honor George S. Wright, our good friend, colleague, and former Dean. George joined the faculty in 1971 and served as Associate Dean from 1974 to 1976. He served as Dean from 1976 until his retirement in 1987. The University honored him and his contributions to the University by designating him Dean Emeritus upon his retirement in 1987. George’s tenure as Dean can be characterized as being the years of maturity and development following the years of inception under the school’s first Dean Hal Box. It was under George’s leadership that our current building was funded and completed. George was successful in securing our wonderful courtyard as a part of this project. The courtyard remains one the significant public spaces on campus and is the center of the social like of our school. George’s other accomplishments include the establishment of the distinguished visiting architect program that continues to attract leading thinkers in design to our school, the attraction of significant architectural exhibitions that represented the works of Palladio, Corbusier, Aalto, and Meier among others, established the UTA architect of the year award to honor area architects, and attracted significant funding for enrichment of the student’s education. George was involved in the profession and the community. He was a Member of TSA, and the Dallas and Fort Worth chapters of the AIA and was elected to the College of Fellows of the A.I.A in 1984. He served his community of Arlington, serving numerous Committees, Councils, and Commissions. We honor George S. Wright for making a difference. We are pleased to ask you to join us by helping us to endow the George S. Wright Scholarship Fund. We have a donor who will match your contribution up to a total of $10,000.00. |
