Baum recognized as designer, educator

University of Texas at Arlington Architecture Professor Edward Baum, FAIA, has been selected as a 2008 Honor Award recipient by the Texas Society of Architects. The awards recognize significant contributions to the architectural profession and the quality of the built environment and will be presented during the 69th Annual TSA Convention, October 23-25 in Fort Worth, Texas.

The Award for Outstanding Educational Contributions in Honor of Edward J. Romieniec, FAIA, will be presented to Professor Baum for his vibrant career as a great designer and educator.

Edward Baum joined the U. T. Arlington faculty in 1988 as dean and served in that position until 1999, when he returned to full time teaching and practice. He is a registered architect and a Fellow of the American Institute of Architects. Before coming to the School of Architecture, Baum taught at Washington University in Saint Louis and at the Harvard Graduate School of Design. His past awards include a Progressive Architecture Design Award (with C. Stifter), two American Architecture Awards and three AIA awards for the Dallas Police Memorial (with J. Maruszczak), and a Wood Design Award and three AIA awards for Prototype Infill Housing in Dallas. Professor Baum is a co-founder of the Dallas Architecture Forum.

The Texas Society of Architects is a member association representing the members of the American Institute of Architects in Texas. Founded in 1939, the Society is made up of seventeen regional chapters and is headquartered in Austin.
