Landscape Architecture's David Hopman discusses green roof projects

Posted: May 20, 2011, 2:29 pm

In a May 9, 2001 article titled "Putting environment above all else", profiling DFW area work in green roof technology, Dallas Morning News writer Eric Aasen spoke with Landscape Architecture associate professor David Hopman about the green roof concept and its implementation at the University of Texas at Arlington and elsewhere.

About the concept, Hopman said:

"It's an interesting idea in an urban area.  Rather than having a dead zone where you can have acres and acres of roofs that are either environmentally disruptive or, at best, environmentally benign.  There are so many things a green roof can do."

Hopman was heavily involved with the installation of UT Arlington's own green roof in 2008.  The 1,000-square-foot green roof includes a mix of native and imported plants that thrive in the Texas heat.
