Cantrell featured at the Dallas Center for Architecture

The Dallas Center for Architecture is featuring an exhibition of work by UT Arlington alumnus and instructor Jay Cantrell.  Jay Cantrell & The Gabriel Prize includes Cantrell's work "The Passages of Paris," dating from the summer of 2009 when he studied architecture and landscape in Paris. Cantrell was the 2009 recipient of The Gabriel Prize, awarded by the Western European Architecture Foundation. The award is named for the French architect Ange-Jacques Gabriel.

The exhibition also includes four collages of notable buildings in downtown Dallas: 1900 Elm (Titche-Goettinger Building), the Kirby Building, the Davis Building and the Wilson Building.

Cantrell graduated from UT Arlington's School of Architecture in 1997 and did his graduate work at the University of Virginia. He currently teaches the Path A graphics class at UT Arlington.

The Western European Architecture Foundation was created in 1989 by George Parker, Jr. of Dallas. The primary mission of the foundation is the Gabriel Prize competition, awarded annually, but the organization is also committed to the preservation and restoration of French classical architecture.

The Dallas Center for Architecture is one of the nation's first centers devoted to uniting architects and allied professionals with citizens and community members concerned about good design, community sustainability and other key living-environment issues for today and tomorrow.

Jay Cantrell & The Gabriel Prize will remain on display at the Dallas Center for Architecture through December 22. The exhibition is free and open to the public.
