DFW Hypercity is a digital humanities pilot project that presents historic maps and model reconstructions of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex using new interactive technologies. Using GIS and GoogleEarth, historic maps can be viewed in the context of the contemporary city, revealing patterns of growth and change in the urban fabric as well as changes in how we see cities and maps themselves.
This project is a collaboration of Dr. Holliday’s undergraduate and graduate students with the support of Ben Huseman, Maps Archivist at UT Arlington's Special Collections and Joshua Been, GIS Librarian. Since Fall 2010, students have digitized and georeferenced over 40 maps of the region. A sample of their work is below.
