Masters student wanted

Shraman South Asian Museum and Learning Center Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Dallas, TX, is seeking a master-level student of architecture for renderings.   The successful candidate will create images of a museum that reflects South Asian architecture yet fits into the architectural landscape of the Dallas Arts District.  As there is no design of the building yet, this project will require the candidate to think creatively.  The renderings need to be completed by the end of August.  Direct inquires, resumes, and sample of work to Dr. Gardner Harris, Director of South Asian Religion and Arts (agharris@shraman.org)


Community Designer

The buildingcommunityWORKSHOP is a Dallas based nonprofit community design center seeking to improve the livability and viability of communities through the practice of thoughtful design and making. We enrich the lives of citizens by bringing design thinking to areas of our city where resources are most scarce. To do so, the bcWORKSHOP recognizes that it must first understand the social, economic, and environmental issues facing a community before beginning work. 

Position Title:  bcFELLOW Community Designer 

Number available:  1 

Location:   Brownsville, TX 

Duration:   August 2013-August 2014 

Compensation:  $20,000 - $25,000 

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The bcFELLOW Community Designer will work daily on supporting and forwarding the sustainABLEhouse initiative. Additional responsibilities would include contributing to the organizations growth and success in Brownsville through creative and co-operative efforts.  bcW is committed to community based design and is active in a series of dynamic and challenging projects throughout the region.  Our office currently has two staff and one bcFELLOW in Brownsville, working on various projects that range from neighborhood planning, trail design, housing design and policy analysis.  This position will be under the supervision of bcW’s sustainABLEhouse Associate. 

sustainABLEhouse LRGV utilizes design as a tool to address issues of equity within the Lower Rio Grande valley by providing affordable single-family housing that is durable, efficient, contextually appropriate, and community/resident informed.  Each sustainABLEhouse is the result of an inclusive design process that is guided by informed resident choice, altering the perceptions and practices of LRGV affordable housing forward.  

EXPERIENCE/SKILLS: 

  • 2-5 years’ experience in architectural practice with direct client experience and a strong commitment to public interest design
  • Master’s degree (or bachelor’s degree plus equivalent experience) in architecture.
  • Strong design ability
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills
  • Strong visual communication skills and graphic talent
  • Ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines and a good sense of humor
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Spanish proficient 

COMMITMENT: 

Position is full time position with residency/work in the Texas Rio Grande Valley (Brownsville) area. Occasional travel to Dallas will be necessary. Intern/Design Assistant

Part Time Position

Bauhaus Custom Homes is looking to hire a highly motivated and skilled SketchUp Artist.The ideal person should be proficient in Google SketchUp and Layout. V-Ray experience a plus.You must be able to create models & drawings from schematic designs to fully developed construction documents under the supervision of a senior designer.

Residential design experience is a plus, but not required.

Arlington Urban Design Center, Architecture Intern Position

Candidate must be a registered graduate student, including summer sessions, and must possess a good basic knowledge of architecture and design principles, especially urban design, physical planning, and basic construction methods.  A strong design portfolio is required.  Knowledge of 3D software rendering programs, Photoshop, and AutoCAD are required.  Knowledge of InDesign is a plus.  Maturity, professionalism, and excellent communication skills are key.  The ideal candidate will have completed at least one semester of graduate school and will have at least two semesters remaining before graduation.  Candidate must be available to work in the Arlington Urban Design Center, located in Arlington City Hall, between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. every Monday through Thursday.

Primary Duties would include:

  • Provide drafting support in AutoCAD for Construction Documents.
