Areas of Study:

Film/Video/Screenwriting

Narrative screenwriting emphasizes the understanding of character development and conflict in writing for film and video. The program integrates with the film and video production classes to prepare students to produce and direct their own screenplays.

The course will cover the basic format styles, strategies, structures and requisites for creative, fictional, narrative screenwriting. Special emphasis will be concentrated on creation of characters and an understanding of narrative motion picture conflict.

Intro students complete writing exercises, study scripts, write extensive coverage, read assignments in class, view films, conduct actor readings, and write a number of original scripts.

No adaptations or co-writing allowed. All work must be original. There are no prerequisites

The advanced class (by instructor approval only) concentrates on writing a polished first act of a feature screenplay. This class may be repeated to complete the screenplay.
