Biography

Debra Gibney earned her MA in Art History from Southern Methodist University where she received a full scholarship and teaching assistantship.  In support of her research in Paris and Switzerland on the Symbolist painter Édouard Vuillard, Debra was awarded a Haakon Grant and a Rigsby Grant.  Debra’s research for her thesis has led to publication of the article Vuillard’s Natanson Series: A Musical Mise-en-scène to be published in Rutgers Art Review, Volume 21, 2006.  After graduation, Debra interned at the National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C. where she assisted in research for a film developed for the international exhibition Édouard Vuillard.  As intern for the Dallas Museum of Art, Debra curated the exhibition Progressive Texas, about Texas artists from the 1930’s.  Debra has alsowritten three essays for the publication Dallas Museum of Art, 100 Years.  Her current interests lie in the symbiotic relationship between art and war. She has written an essay on war due out in 2006 in the Encyclopedia ofNineteenth-Century Photography
