Huerta is a studio artist who works in watercolor, painting, printmaking, drawings, and mixed media. Huerta also works in the public art arena and was commissioned to design two terrazzo floors ("Wings" measures 30' x 300') for the D/FW Airport's new International Terminal D. The floor designs were inspired by the overhead views of various types of planes over water map imagery, one floor using longitude and the other using latitude with both centering on DFW as the midpoint for the floors. He installed his outdoor sculptural work, "Axis" (corten steel, stainless steel and bronze) at the Henry Gonzalez Convention Center in San Antonio. He also completed a 8' x 720' pavestone walkway in the form of Mexican Milk Snake using it's colors and pattern to define the walkway. Huerta was the lead artist for a Parks Design Enhancement project for the Fort Worth Parks Department, improving benches, tables, trash cans, barbeque pits, sidewalks, moe edges and other outdoor accessories.
Benito Huerta is Director and Curator for The Gallery at UTA and is instrumental in organizing exhibitions for the gallery and coordinating the Bachelor of Fine Arts and Master of Fine Arts Thesis exhibitions.
