MFA Candidate Janet Morrow : Ambiguous BelongingPosted on March 27, 2012
MFA candidate Janet Morrow's exhibition Ambiguous Belonging runs through Thursday, March 29 the Fort Worth Community Art Center at 1300 Gendy Street in Fort Worth. Morrow uses tube-like fabric sculptures and photographs of industrial interiors to explore concepts of embodiment involving cyborgism, the state of being a hybrid of organic and man-made parts.
Morrow states, “Cyborgism raises questions about the essential nature of humanity. If one’s embodiment includes man-made parts, is one still fully human? What if the efficiency of the manufactured parts eventually exceeds that of god-given parts? Where does that place the cyborg in the human-machine continuum?”
