Current Student Achievements:

Yvonne Lazosis the 3rd Place Winner of the

online competition, WOMANifesto.  Her entry is entitled “Behind the Control Box”.

She will be a featured artist for three weeks on their homepage and her entry

will be included in the catalog.

Jeff Bradleyis exhibiting work in the group exhibition “Ring of Fire” at the Gallery at Casa Manana in Fort Worth.  The opening is May 28th, 2012.

Bryce Bennettwas selected as a finalist for the Photographer’s Forum Best of College & High School Photography 2012.  His entry will be included in the hardcover catalogue.

Lindsey Brownwas selected to have her work included in the Rising Eyes of Texas exhibit at Rockport Center for the Arts, Rockport, TX.  The juror was Colette Copeland.  The exhibit was in March 2012.

MFA candidate M. Kate Helmes is completing her degree from UTA this spring.  She will be working as an art department advisor and teaching at UTA next year


Faculty Research Activity:

Professor Kenda North was featured in an exhibition and catalog Backyard Oasis:  The Swimming Pool in Southern California Photography 1945-1982 at the Palm Springs Art Museum in Palm Springs, California.  Ms. North had five dye transfer prints from the late l970’s in the exhibit and catalog and has received several reviews of the work.  Juror Dave Hickey chose one of her photographs to be included in the Texas National 2012 at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches April-May 2012. Her work was also included in the exhibition “Hencho en Oak Cliff” at Mountain View College in March-April 2012.  She has been accepted to the Ondarte International Artist Residency in Akumal Mexico for summer 2012.

Associate Professor Leighton McWilliams had a solo exhibition, Stranger in a Strange Land at 621 Gallery in Tallahassee, Fl. In January 2012.  His work was accepted for the on-line gallery by Creative Quarterly 25, NYC.   He was the 2012 juror for the Fort Worth County Day School’s Regional High School Photo Contest. 

Associate Professor Andrew Ortiz had work included in a group exhibition Technology: High and Low at the Black Box Gallery in Portland, Or in 2012.  He had a solo exhibition Measured Disorder at the MFA Gallery in Dallas in 2011.

Senior Lecturer Scott Hilton will participate in the DADA Spring Gallery Artwalk panel “How do I get in?  Do I want to?” on April 21, 2012 at CentralTrak in Dallas. He had a solo show at 500X Gallery in Dallas, "On the Nature of Things" , March 10-April 1, 2012.  He also did a collaborative installation at 500X with Chris Tinnen,  "Society for Olfactory Preservation" in January 2012.  His work was juried by Christopher James into an exhibition “The Hand-Made Photography” at Mills Pond House Gallery in St. James, NY Scheduled for May 2012.

Senior Lecturer Bryan Florentin had a solo exhibition, Inscrutable Evidence,at Kirk Hopper Fine Art in Dallas, January-February 2012.  His work was also exhibited by Kirk Hopper at the Dallas Art Fair April 13-15 2012.

Adjunct Professor Jesse Morgan Barnett had a solo exhibition at Marty Walker Gallery in Dallas in March 2012.  His work was also included in group exhibitions at the Gibson Company Lofts, Dallas; Carillon Gallery, Fort Worth and the Alliance Francaise in Malaysia in 2012.
