Harry Geffert / Chuck Ramirez
October 15 – November 17, 2012
The Gallery at the University of Texas at Arlington is pleased to present an exhibition of the work of two well-known Texas artists, Harry Geffert (Crowley) and Chuck Ramirez (d. 2010, San Antonio). Geffert, one of Texas’s leading bronze sculptors is known for his wall-mounted bronze castings of Texas plant life that he presents as both unique objects and as abstract landscapes of juxtaposed elements. He will be showing current work as well as some classic earlier works from throughout his illustrious fifty-year career. Ramirez, whose death in a bicycling accident at the age of 48 shocked the Texas art community, created powerful photographic works that explored issues of personal identity and consumer culture. This exhibition will featurehis signature large-scale digital prints that recontextualize mundane, often discarded objects as poignant portraits that reference human presence and use.
The exhibit and all events are free and open to the public.
Gallery hours are 10 am until 5 pm Monday through Friday and noon until 5 pm on Saturday. The Gallery is located in the Fine Art Building, room 169, at 502 S. Cooper Street, Arlington, TX.
