The UTA 2012 Glass art show and sale (DON’T MISS THIS EVENT)

March 30, is the date for UT Arlington’s annual World-Class Glass art show and sale at the Studio Art Center, 810 S. Davis Drive. The sale runs 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. with silent auction bids accepted 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event Features beautifully crafted works of glass art which go on sale to the public Friday. Graduate students and faculty in UT Arlington’s renowned Glass program crafted most of the work. In addition, a number of pieces have been donated by visiting glass artists who have lectured and blown glass in the campus studio during the past year.

“The sale typically attracts people from across Texas”, said David Keens, Professor and Architect of UT Arlington’s Glass art program. “There’s always something unique and special about each year’s event because we have new students, different visiting artists, and new work by the adjuncts, graduate students and faculty.”

Making the glass art involves manipulating glass with a variety of hand tools and fire. Glass blowing demonstrations will be part of the show. The event includes collector art pieces, vases, paperweights, platters, bowls, small sculptures and other items for sale. Half the proceeds from student work go to the student artists; the rest benefits the glass art program and will be used to purchase or build equipment and to repair existing equipment.
