About NEW CROP: 500X College Expo

500X Gallery, Texas' oldest artist-run space, continues our annual juried show for college students!

Like the annual Expo juried show, NEW CROP: 500X College Expo aims to bring together artists from around the state. The exhibition offers college students an opportunity to enter into a dialogue with their Texas-based counterparts and to see work by their colleagues at other institutions. The exhibition will offer visitors an overview of the variety of perspectives that exist throughout colleges and universities in Texas.

The Rules

• To submit work, please visit http://500x.slideroom.com
• The exhibition is open to all artists enrolled in college-level courses in Texas.
• The entry fee is $30 for up to 3 images (includes details of work).
• All visual media are eligible, including drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, installation and video (artist must supply all required electronic equipment).
• Artists will be notified via email Friday, September 28 by 8pm if the work has been accepted into the exhibition. If you do not receive an email, your work has not been accepted.
• All work must be picked up by October 23. $50 storage
charge for work left after this date. 

The Exhibition

• Work must be exhibition ready (with securely attached D-rings, cleats, etc). Works without hanging hardware- even if accepted by the juror- will NOT be accepted for the exhibition, and there will be no refund of the entry fee.
• Complex installations will be considered only if the artist is available to install.
• During drop-off, accepted entrants must show a current student ID and a printout of their Fall 2012 class schedule; there are no exceptions to this rule.
• Securely label each work with your name, title of work, media, dimensions, date of execution, and price. You will be asked to fill out a form with this information for our records again on site.
• The gallery retains a 30% commission on all artwork sold during the exhibition.

    Openings: Netting and Looping Thursday, October 11th, 10am – 2pm Friday, October 12th, 10am – 4pm 
This workshop will encourage participants to explore visual ideas suggested through openwork textile structure, primarily that of knotted netting and knotless netting.

• Lecture
  • Ripening: Ideas, Works, Life Thursday, October 11, 3 p.m. Scoular Hall Room 129 University of North Texas.
Oil and Cotton, Dallas Students will experiment and discover ways of working with hog intestines (sausage casings) as a skin membrane. Pat Hickman, known for her work with this material, will demonstrate techniques and discuss the history and potential for expressing ideas and meaning using gut.

 

 

The Print Center 87th Annual International Competition

All forms of art, with photography and/or printmaking as critical components of the work, may be submitted. Artists whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices are especially encouraged to enter.

Three solo exhibitions at The Print Center to be held June-July 2013, Online exhibition, Philadelphia Museum of Art Purchase Award, Two-year contract from The Print Center Gallery Store, and up to $3,000 in purchase, cash and material prizes.

About the Competition

The Print Center’s Annual International Competition is one of the most prestigious and oldest competitions in the United States. The Print Center is particularly interested in highlighting local, national and international artists who utilize photography and printmaking in intriguing ways, both in content and process. Artists who use printmaking and/or photography as critical components of their work, or whose work pushes the boundaries of traditional photographic and printmaking practices, are encouraged to enter.

If you are not already a member, your entry fee to the competition entitles you to a one-year membership to The Print Center.
