Art + Art History Dept. Faculty Activities/Recognition David Keens, who is head of the glass program at UT Arlington, was recently honored as the 2007 "Texas State 3-Dimensional Artist" by the Texas State Legislature and the Texas Commission, as well as receiving UT Arlington's Academy of Distinguished Scholars award. In October 2006, Keens participated in a two-day UT Arlington glass blowing demonstration that also featured many nationally and internationally known glass artists. Leighton McWilliams recently won one of five cash awards from "The Edge of Excess" national competition. His work was juried from a national pool of artists. The exhibition is currently open to the public through July 2007 at the Foundry Art Centre in St. Charles, Missouri, which boasts a "Smithsonian caliber gallery." Dr. Mary Vaccaro, an expert on Italian art, was asked to write an article about her discovery of the identity of an artist, Bernadino Gatti, whose painting had been previously attributed to an anonymous 16th century Italian artist. The article will be published in the Revue du Louvre et des Musée de France, the official journal of the French national museums. Vaccaro also received a prestigious one year Clawson Fellowship to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York where she will study their collection of drawings.
