Student Advising:
New Students
Thank you for your interest in the Art & Art History Department at the University of Texas Arlington!
We offer three degree options for students: Bachelor of Arts in Art History, a Bachelor of Arts in Art, and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art with concentrations in clay, drawing, film & video, glass, visual communication, metals, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture and art certification. The Bachelor of Arts in Art History encourages students to focus on the historical study of art and professional art history methodologies. The Bachelor of Arts in Art is a broad approach to studio art and allows students the option of selecting a minor outside the department to enhance their studies. The Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art is formulated for students who desire a more in-depth concentration in one studio area.
The department staff looks forward to helping you join the dynamic community of artists and scholars at the University of Texas at Arlington. Expansions in technology and computer studios in the Fine Arts Building have strengthened and enhanced our visual communication and digital imaging capabilities. Expanded photographic studios, a new digital cinema complex, laboratories and classroom/critique spaces will add additional focus to your learning experience.
The new Studio Arts Center offers students state-of-the-art studio opportunities in the areas of painting, printmaking, metals, sculpture, clay and glass. The finest university facility of its kind in the southwest, the Studio Arts Center will serve the needs of students in every concentration.
Yes, it’s a great time to come to UTA!
Sincerely,

Department Admission
Whether you need a portfolio to enter the art department is the most often asked question by new and prospective students. The answer is no, you will not need to show any artwork to enter the program. You will be admitted as a pre-Art student. If you would like to specify an area of concentration when we meet, that's fine. It’s good to have a sense of direction when you enter UTA.
If you would like to schedule a visit to the art department and meet with me to discuss the program, your interests and direction, you can either contact me via email or phone or you may contact the Main Office at 817.272.2891.Appointments
