  Program Overview

The Department of Bioengineering offers Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy degrees in Biomedical Engineering. The program prepares students as biomedical engineers for careers in industry, hospitals, research facilities, educational and medical institutions and governmental regulatory agencies. This cross-disciplinary curriculum also provides a solid foundation in engineering for those wanting to pursue medical degrees.

A unique, five-year plan offers students the opportunity to earn combined degrees - an MS in Biomedical Engineering and a BS in Biology. This option prepares students for careers in the fast-growing biotechnology and biomedical engineering industries as well as for advanced studies.

The Department is structured into five research/teaching tracks. All tracks are designed to coordinate student research and course work, and there are some overlaps between tracks. Click on the track name to view information on suggested courses and research opportunities.

Students interested in biotechnology will pursue the molecular engineering track. This track is a dual doctoral program, combining biochemistry and molecular biology with molecular engineering
