Note to users: Since new discoveries regarding phylogenetic diversity and the geographic distribution of species are made on a regular basis, our methods for classifying the Mexican herpetofauna are often subject to modification. Our current accounts follow the taxonomy of Frost (2010) for amphibians and JCVI/TIGR database for reptiles. Distribution maps have been approximated using NatureServe/IUCN Digital Distribution Maps for amphibians and the SSAR Catalog of American Amphibians and Reptiles for reptiles. State lists have been compiled using Flores-Villella and Pérez-Mendoza (2006) as a guide.
