THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ALUMNI AWARD
FOR OUTSTANDING CAREER ACHIEVEMENT
Robert Earley (M.S., Health Care Administration, 2009)
President and CEO
JPS Health Network
Robert Earley is the president and CEO of Tarrant County’s public supported healthcare network, which experienced more than 1.1 million patient encounters in 2013. Earley, who was appointed CEO in 2009, has transformed JPS into an example of government that other public entities want to emulate. City administrators throughout Tarrant County have invited Earley to speak to their leadership teams about how to transform their municipal culture into one that puts the customer first and instills pride in the employees.
Earley earned his master’s degree in health care administration at UT Arlington’s Fort Worth Center, achieved while working full time as JPS president and CEO. His decade of service as an elected state official makes him unique among his healthcare colleagues. His knowledge of how the state legislative process works is tapped repeatedly when the Texas Legislature is in session. He serves as a spokesman on behalf of public hospitals at House and Senate healthcare hearings, and spends an equal amount of time in the offices of committee chairs and presiding officers.
Since attending UT Arlington, Earley has been a constant supporter of the College of Business. He regularly speaks to students in the classroom, serves on the college’s Advisory Council and was even the speaker at the college’s Spring 2013 Commencement ceremony. His community involvement extends far beyond JPS and UTA—he is on the boards of numerous organizations and chairs a variety of nonprofit programs in the Fort Worth area.
THE COLLEGE OF BUSINESS ALUMNI AWARD
FOR OUTSTANDING EARLY CAREER ACHIEVEMENT
Nicholas Barber (B.B.A., Marketing, 2004)
Owner and CEO
Sigma Relocation Group, LLC
Nick Barber began his career in real estate in 2001 as a full time undergraduate student at UT Arlington. His job as an onsite leasing agent for the apartment community where he lived seemed to be a natural fit for his sales-driven personality. Following a series of promotions, Barber, then 23, landed a position as a leasing director focusing on Trammel Crow’s new construction communities throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metro area. Barber saw the apartment locating industry, which at the time was a loosely organized group of small businesses and independent agents, as one with immense potential, limited competition and relatively low barriers to entry. With a vision to create the first large-scale apartment locating business model, Barber launched UMoveFree Apartment Locators in 2002 with his business partner, Mark Finney, a local independent real estate agent.
From only a few thousand dollars loaned from family and friends, UMoveFree slowly grew into the debt-free and investor-free company it is today, employing more than 100 people and operating as the unchallenged market-leader throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth, Greater Houston, Greater San Antonio and Greater Austin areas. UMoveFree.com boasts more than 2 million registered users and the company helps nearly 2,000 renters find an apartment each and every month.
