Dr. Chandra Subramaniam Appointed Chair of the Accounting Department
October 8, 2008—Dr. Daniel Himarios, Dean of the College of Business at The University of Texas at Arlington, is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Chandra Subramaniam, Associate Professor of Accounting, as Chair of the Department of Accounting. Dr. Subramaniam assumed this administrative post after the previous Chair, Dr. Larry Walther, retired from UT Arlington. “Dr. Subramaniam has repeatedly demonstrated remarkable leadership ability and commitment to the college,” said the Dean. “He is a gifted academic and skillful administrator. I look forward to working closely with Dr. Subramaniam as the college grows to become a premier business school at the state and national levels.”
Dr. Subramaniam joined the College of Business in 2003 after more than ten years at Texas Christian University where he was an assistant professor of accounting. Previously, he served as an instructor and Director for the Small Business Development Center and Small Business Institute at the University of Minnesota—Duluth. Dr. Subramaniam is an active researcher who is published in numerous academic journals and professional publications including the Journal of Finance; Journal of Business Finance & Accounting; Journal of Accounting, Auditing, and Finance; Journal of Business Ethics and Accounting Horizons. He earned his Ph.D in Business Administration from the University of Minnesota Carlson School of Management and received a Master of Business Administration and a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of Minnesota—Duluth. Dr. Subramaniam is a Certified Public Accountant, State of Minnesota, and is a Certified Management Accountant.
The Department of Accounting is one of the oldest and largest academic departments in the College of Business and is the second largest accounting program in The University of Texas System with more than 6,000 alumni. The program is fully accredited and is ranked in the top 5 percent nationally for its research activity. In 2007, the Accounting graduate program ranked 11th nationally, according to a report by the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy. The department offers two undergraduate degrees (B.S. and B.B.A.), four master's degrees (MBA-Accounting, MPA, MSA, and MST), and a Ph.D. degree.
