Cynthia Bing is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), and a Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC) with 15 years experience in college counseling and 7 years experience coordinating services to meet the developmental and psychological needs of college students. She is experienced working with students to address a variety of concerns related to college adjustment and mental health.

Adria Villarreal, Ph.D., completed her degree in Counseling Psychology and has over 5 years of experience in college counseling and mental health settings. Her areas of expertise include providing individual and group counseling to students struggling with a variety of mental health and adjustment issues, including depression, anxiety, grief and loss, and relationship issues. Areas of particular interest include trauma recovery and gender and diversity issues in mental health.

Ellen Myers, M.S., L.P.C., has a wide range of experience in teaching, academic advising, and general counseling in non-profit and university settings and has worked at UTA since 1997. Her areas of interest include stress management/relaxation training, academic counseling, and career planning.

Lori Leach, M.Ed., L.P.C., has over 15 years of experience in university and social service settings, and has been a licensed counselor since 1992. Her areas of expertise include transition/adjustment to college life, exploration of majors/careers, interpersonal relationships, and self esteem. Her areas of interest include the mind-body connection and wellness practices for mental health.

Peter Varnau, M.S. is a recent graduate of the University of North Texas Counselor Education Program. Peter brings undergraduate and graduate degrees in Business Administration and over 17 years of experience in Corporate Human Resources and Consulting to UTA. His areas of expertise include anxiety, stress management, relationships, and vocational guidance with an emphasis on Biofeedback and the mind-body connection.

Vickie Goins, Ph.D., has over 5 years of experience in university and community non-profit mental health settings. She enjoys working with students in an individual or group setting to address a variety of mental health and adjustment issues, including anxiety, depression, interpersonal relationships, self-esteem, grief/loss, trauma recovery, and career exploration. Particular areas of interest include relationship violence, gender socialization, eating disorders, and family of origin issues.

Claudia Thompson, MA, LPC, LMFT, joins UTA with a graduate degree in Counseling Psychology. She has worked with adolescents and adults in individual, couple, group, and family therapy. Her counseling experience is varied and includes anxiety, anger management, trauma, depression, suicide prevention, relationships, eating and body image concerns, and personal growth. As a member of the American Association of Sex Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (ASSECT), Claudia is interested in human sexuality and healthy sexual behavior.

John Johnson, Counseling Intern

John Johnson, LBSW, completed his undergraduate degree in Behavioral Science and is currently completing a master's degree in Counselor Education at the University of North Texas. He has over 4 years of community mental health experience, and almost 6 years experience working in higher education. His areas of interest include multicultural concerns, LGBT concerns and the mind-body connection.
