Do I need an appointment in order to see a general medical provider?
Yes. Every effort will be made to meet patients' needs in a timely manner. If you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment, please provide four hours advance notice, otherwise a no-show/missed-appointment charge of $25.00 will be assessed to your account. You can schedule an appointment online or call 817-272-2771.
Where is Health Services located?
We are on the northeast corner of Third and West Streets. Look for us between the University Center and the Business Building.
There is a parking lot directly behind our building. Alternate parking is available in the Parking Garage (south of us 1/2 block) at the normal parking garage rate.
What is a Nurse Practitioner?
A Nurse Practitioner is your partner in health - providing high-quality primary, acute and specialty healthcare services similar to those of a physician. Nurse Practitioners (NPs) are registered nurses with advanced education (most have Master's degrees) and advanced clinical training. Among their many services, NPs:
- Order, perform and interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and X-rays;
- Diagnose and treat acute and chronic conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, infections and injuries;
- Prescribe medications and other treatments; and
- Manage a patient's care.
How much does it cost to see a provider in the general medical clinic?
- Enrolled Students
Your tuition allows you to see a provider in our general medical clinic. Consultative visits as well as health promotion programs and education, blood pressure checks, nursing care, referral advice and contraceptive information are included in students' flat-rate tuition. Ancillary services such as lab tests, x-rays, immunizations, mental health visits, women's health visits and medication are available for an additional charge that is often more affordable than the off-campus health care community. - Non-registered/Non-fee-paying Students
If you were enrolled in the previous semester but not this one, and you do not intend to re-register in the following semester, you are not eligible to use Health Services. However, if your provider started a treatment plan while you were enrolled, you can use the Health Center for one additional semester while your care is transitioned to an outside source. You will pay a $25.00 service charge per provider visit plus the cost of any ancillary services.
Do you accept insurance for medical and prescription expenses?
- We accept the student health insurance that is offered by contract with UT System (Academic Health Plans underwritten by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Texas) as optional health coverage to enrolled students. We will claim this insurance for any covered expenses incurred by the patient.
- In our pharmacy, we accept student health insurance for prescriptions.
- If you have another health insurance policy, we do not accept or claim it for you; however, if you submit your receipts to your insurance company, it is possible that they may reimburse you for out-of-pocket charges incurred at Health Services.

Does Health Services accept laboratory orders or prescriptions from my personal physician?
- Laboratory Orders
We accept laboratory orders from other physicians outside Health Services. If your examination requires fasting or some other type of special preparation, or if you need other information about our services, please call 817-272-2771.
We will fill any prescription from your personal physician, as long as we carry the medication. If you have any questions about a prescription or another service offered by our pharmacy, please click here or call 817-272-2771.
Is my family eligible for treatment at Health Services?
Spouses and dependents are not eligible for treatment at Health Services unless they are also students. If they are UTA students, we do provide services to them, but are not able to claim your insurance for treatment; they must have their own student health insurance plan. Is my visit to Health Services confidential?
- Yes. All Health Center employees (including student workers) attend training to learn how to prevent breaches of confidentiality. Student workers are closely supervised and are not permitted to read patient charts. Our full-time employees are frequently cautioned about how to maintain confidentiality on the telephone, in person and by correspondence.
- We must have written authorization from the patient before any information is released from the patient's file or as provided by applicable law.
