Emergency Management
Purpose of Emergency Management
Emergency management protects the lives, property, and environment of the University of Texas at Arlington’s (UT Arlington) students, faculty, and staff from the threat or occurrence of emergencies resulting from natural or humanmade disaster. Activities to accomplish the above tasks include coordination, planning, training, drills, and exercises. UT Arlington uses an all-hazards approach and addresses vulnerabilities exposed by hazards and disasters.
The four phases or steps of emergency management are:
- Preparedness – Activities to save lives and property
- Response – Actions that minimize the loss of life and property
- Recovery – Activities that restore campus operations and help return the campus to a normal state
- Mitigation – Activities that reduce or eliminate the probability of disaster or damage
