New Era for the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture with Hiring of New Program Directors

We are pleased to announce two exciting hires for the College of Architecture, Planning and Public Affairs (CAPPA).
On the recommendation of the search committee, we have appointed Dr. Guoqiang Shen as the Program Director of Planning and as a full professor in City and Regional Planning, effective January 2018.
Dr. Shen, a highly regarded researcher, practitioner and academic leader, has broad interests which will positively impact CAPPA. His research will focus on sustainable, healthy, and smart cities from transportation, socio-economic, spatial, physical planning and design perspectives. He received his bachelor’s degree in Architecture from Tsinghua University in Beijing, China, a master’s in Landscape Architecture from Beijing University, and another master’s and doctorate degree in City and Regional Planning from the Ohio State University (OSU).
In the beginning of Fall 2017, we had appointed Dr. Diane Jones Allen as the Program Director of Landscape Architecture and Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture.
Dr. Jones has established a national reputation by bridging practice and research in the areas she cares most deeply about; transportation access, sustainability, and environmental justice. These interests have led to a research and creative output that is remarkable for the holistic integration of academic productivity with successful and meaningful practice, which is essential for CAPPA. She received her bachelor’s degree in Painting from Washington University in St. Louis, a master’s in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley and her Doctorate of Engineering in Transportation Engineering from Morgan State University.
A new and exciting era for the Department of Planning and Landscape Architecture has begun with the hiring of the two program directors. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Shen and Dr. Jones to CAPPA.
