Community Promotion and Business Relocation

The three papers that comprise this report examine the industry-relocation strategies employed by several North Texas communities that, at the time, successfully attracted new corporations. These include Plano (Frito-Lay, Fina, JCPenney, etc.) and Irving (Quaker State, TIG Insurance). Also examined in each paper are the factors evaluated by these same corporations in making their relocation decisions. These papers confirm much of what was already known about the science, or more appropriately, the "art" of corporate relocation. However, there are some surprises, particularly in relation to the weight given by companies to various characteristics of the cities they consider as sites for relocation.
