A Preliminary Economic Development Strategic Plan for Jacksboro, Texas

Jacksboro, located in Jack County between Fort Worth and Wichita Falls, is a city of 4,511 as of the 2010 census that is home to Fort Richardson State Park. The Institute of Urban Studies prepared a preliminary economic development strategic plan at the city manager's request. Because the plan was an initial step toward a more detailed plan for the city to pursue, it consisted only of interviews with prominent Jacksboro citizens, then a half-day workshop with community leaders. What the citizens said they prioritized was better marketing of Fort Richardson State Park, immediately improving downtown, developing the city's website, and improving recreational facilities at the lake. The plan also provided case studies for similar economic development plans as reference aids.
