What is Service Learning?
Service Learning is a teaching methodology that combines conventional academic instruction with participation in direct, meaningful community service. The concept is designed to develop critical and reflective thinking skills and to promote a sense of civic responsibility and commitment to the community.
- Picking up trash on a riverbank is service.
- Studying water samples under a microscope is learning.
- When science students collect and analyze water samples, document their results, and present findings to a local pollution control agency …
that is service-learning.
