AIDS Interfaith Dallas is a multicultural, community-based, non-profit service organization whose programs are designed to meet the practical, emotional, and spiritual needs of persons living with HIV/AIDS. The program provides services for persons living with HIV/AIDS, gives support to the people who care for them, and educate persons who are at-risk in order to intervene in the spread of HIV. AIDS Interfaith Network provides in-home respite care by trained volunteers to people with AIDS and their family members through the Care Team Project. The program also offers HIV wellness/education classes, pickup/delivery of prescription medications, household assistance, and transportation for AIDS patients. Grief counseling is also available for family members of AIDS victims.

AIDS Outreach Center provides services to men, women and children with HIV. This agency offers people with HIV nutritional support, legal services, housing assistance, buddy support, group support, and youth services. Case management services are also provided to assist clients in obtaining resources and services to meet critical social needs and to help clients to have sufficient services to live safe, healthy, and independent with their disease.

Alliance for Children provides services to physically and sexually abused children and their families. Other services provided include: medical assessment, referrals to community resources, and a safe supportive place for child victims to be interviewed and receive counseling.

The Alzheimer’s Association of Tarrant County is a nonprofit organization dedicated to assisting Alzheimer patients and their families through support programs, education, public awareness, advocacy and research. The Family Care Program provides case management to help the clients make informed choices and decisions concerning care and help arrange services needed by the client. Other services include the telephone help-line, monthly education programs, information and referral, and Safe Return, which is an identification program for patients who wander and become lost.

Volunteer training is required in some areas.

The Arc of Greater Tarrant County provides services and support for individuals with mental retardation and other developmental disabilities and their families. The Arc of Greater Tarrant County is also an advocacy for the mentally challenged to foster the development of programs in their behalf and to monitor existing programs to assure the highest standard of excellence. The Arlington Night Shelter provides, shelter, meals and rehabilitative services for homeless men, women and families. Big Brothers Big Sisters program focuses on the one-to-one relationship between an adult volunteer and a youth between the ages of seven and fifteen from a single-parent family. Camp Summit is a year-round facility, offering one-week sessions in the summer and weekend sessions in the spring and fall, for children, youth, and adults who are physically challenged, developmentally delayed, or dual sensory impaired or who have multiple disabilities. Campers are encouraged to try new experiences in order to gain self-confidence, learn cooperation and communication, and increase personal independence in a safe and fun environment. The focus of the camp is on individual growth through accomplishing a variety of goals at levels specific to each individual’s needs, capabilities, and potential.

Child Advocates of Tarrant County provides trained, court-appointed volunteers to serve as court advocates for children in child abuse and neglect cases who have been placed in foster care. Volunteers will serve as independent voices in court on behalf of abused and neglected children’s best interests and in pursuit of safe, permanent homes. The volunteer will work with all parties involved in the assigned case and visit the child regularly.

The Girls Incorporated of Tarrant County inspires all girls to become strong, smart and bold and increases the social competence of girls and boys. Girls Inc. provides after-school and summer childcare for youth ages 5-12. Services include tutoring, prevention program, field trips, snacks, speakers and indoor/outdoor activities. Helping Restore Ability’s mission is to educate and advocate, enrich and empower adults with disabilities. HRA client managed attendant services help persons 18 and older with various physical disabilities choose their assistant(s) from applicants provided by HRA. The clients establish their own assistant’s schedule and supervise all aspects of the services and the services may take place at home, in school, or at the workplace. The mission of The Parenting Center is to provide families the tools to succeed. The aim is the prevention and intervention of child abuse and neglect. Clinical Services include: individual, group and play therapy, couple and family counseling. The Healthy Families program provides individual in-home consultation and education for first-time mothers under the age of 20; WARM Line is a parenting hotline for anyone who needs to ask a parenting question. Education Services: Parent education classes, workshops, speeches and seminars are offered both on-site and at various locations throughout Tarrant County. The mission of River Legacy Foundation is to preserve and enhance the forest flood plain along the banks of the Trinity River as an extraordinary recreational, educational and natural resource. Evolving from this mission is the Living Science Center, which provides educational opportunities for both youth and adults with hands-on interactive experiences with nature. Some of the volunteer opportunities include trail guides who lead visitors of all ages along the park training adjoining the Living Science Center, Nature School aides, exhibit docents, animal care, and permanent collections.

Salvation Army (The)

The Salvation Army Arlington Center is a program designed to help stabilize homeless families and teach them the necessary skills to live independently in the community. Basic needs such as food, shelter and childcare are provided, while independent living skills are taught through educational workshops, counseling, and community resource networking.

The Arlington Corps Community Center is a neighborhood center for worship, education, recreation, music and community activity. The center provides after-school and summer youth programs for children of all ages. Youth activities include indoor/outdoor games and arts and crafts that are all supervised by adults. This center is located at 712 W. Abram Street.

Summerbridge A Breakthrough Program

Summerbridge offers academic enrichment opportunities to economically disadvantaged middle school students so they can enter and succeed in college prep high school programs and go on to college. Volunteer opportunities for high school and college students to teach and tutor students after school in four to eight week increments as well as to teach (for a small stipend) students for six weeks (daily 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.) in the summer.

Tarrant County Juvenile Services

The Tarrant County Juvenile Services is provided at the direction of the Tarrant County Juvenile Board and the Juvenile Court, to address the prevention of delinquent conduct and provide for the care and rehabilitation of children (10-16) within its jurisdiction. Tarrant County Juvenile Services has developed a range of community and home-based programs as additional options in solving the problem of juvenile crime. Services provided include screening and diversion of cases to community resources, presenting objective reports to the court for use at disposition, executing court-ordered treatment and supervision, administrating community corrections programs, securing alternative placement and administering collection of court-ordered probation fees and restitution. Services to victims of juvenile crime are also provided.

Texas Inmate Services is a social service program designed to enhance the reintegration of ex-offenders into society. The objective of the Vocation Development Program is to increase the clients’ opportunity for gainful employment. Union Gospel Mission is a homeless shelter that provides temporary shelter, beds, meals, showers, and clothing for men, women and children. The WARM Place is a grief support center for children and their families after the loss of a loved one. Evening support groups are available for kindergarten through high school children and their parents or guardians. Daytime eight-week group sessions are offered bi-annually for children ages 3-5. HOSTS is a volunteer mentoring program that pairs a student who needs help learning to read with a community volunteer mentor. The mentor’s role is to work with an individual student on materials and activities prescribed by the HOSTS instructor. The mentor provides feedback to the student and to the teacher on the individual student’s progress.

The Women’s Center of Tarrant County’s purpose is to enable and empower women, individually and as a group, to build better futures for women, families and the community, help women from all walks of life-especially women in crises and transition – solve problems, seek opportunities and develop the skills and confidence to meet the challenges of a changing world. Advocate for the needs and concerns of women. Services provide include: Rape Crisis Services, Crime Victims Services, General Counseling, Employment Services, and Public Awareness and Advocacy.

The Women’s Shelter provides short-term emergency residential shelter for battered women and their children. Provides individual counseling, support groups, case management, legal advocacy and assistance in accessing community resources. Children’s program includes counseling, support groups, recreational and therapeutic activities.

YWCA Arlington Child Development Center

The center provides quality child development for children birth through 5 years of age from all income levels. Volunteers will care for children during naptime so teachers can participate in on-site training.
Volunteer training required (once each month 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.).

The YWCA currently focuses on the needs of economically disadvantaged women and children with the following programs:

My Own Place – A collaborative partnership between YWCA, Catholic Charities, Tarrant County College and Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services provides housing, counseling, case management and a mentor program to create a bridge to independence for young women who have aged out of the foster care system.

Supportive Living – This program provides safe housing, case management, social services, crisis intervention and education for transitionally homeless women giving each participant the opportunity to work toward self-sufficiency
with dignity.

AIM (Achievement, Ideals, Motivation) – This pregnancy prevention program for at-risk girls provides weekly activities focusing on decision-making skills, education, self-esteem, goal setting and career development.

Child Care – YWCA child development centers in the Polytechnic area, central Arlington and Downtown Fort Worth serve homeless and economically disadvantaged children ages birth through 5 years.
