Research Project

The objective of my research was to determine a roadway buffer width to protect human health from air pollution exposure. Research work included on board emission data collection using Chevy Astro van outfitted with tailpipe emission analyzer OBS-1300.  Over the course of year, the research team measured tailpipe emissions “before and after” traffic signal synchronization along the four corridors in Arlington and Grand Prairie in Texas. Pollutant concentrations at various distances from roadway were modeled using CALINE4 dispersion modeling software. The analysis included creation of dispersion maps using ArcGIS.
