| Construction Research Advisory Committee Membership List Twentieth Annual Building Professional Institute May 21-25, 2012 |
The Construction Research Center (CRC) was established by The University of Texas at Arlington as a vehicle for the developmentof construction technology and dissemination of newly developed technology to the professional community. It is part of the Department of Civil Engineering within the College of Engineering. Advised by member industry representatives (the Construction Research Advisory Committee, CRAC), and other UT Arlington colleges, the CRC ise stablishing a dynamic record of university-industry cooperation toward the realization of dynamic mutual objectives. Refer to the Construction Research Advisory Committee for a current roster. Since the Center's establishment in 1972, it has directed considerable funding toward construction research and education. In addition, the CRC has sponsored and conducted hundreds of seminars and educational programs in the community to satisfy the practical needs of the various construction and building industry members. The research programs generally include the departments of Civil Engineering, Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Geology, Economics, and Business Administration. The specified areas of study range from light foundations to the econometrics of the construction industry. Refer to the CRC Technical Reports for a current listing of available publications. Seminars, special courses, and special programs are held for their educational values and to disseminate research. Over the past several years, the CRC has also developed a computer bank of some 20,000 addresses of companies and individuals associated with the construction industry. From this bank, the Center selects those appropriate to receive continuing education course material and other information mailings. The major annual continuing education program is the Building Professional Institute, held each May on the UTA campus. The week-long program, conducted in conjunction with the Building Officials Association of Texas, provides 80 plus topical presentations in twelve track areas including: Management and Administration, International Building Code, Southern Building Code, Uniform Building Code, etc. The Building Professional Institute provides approved continuing education courses for AIA architects, real estate inspectors, insurance adjusters, and engineers. CRAC membership presently consists of representatives from approximately 25 organizations, including home builders, designers, engineers, general contractors, architects, material and service suppliers, government officials and testing labs, who have vested interests in the CRC's educational and research activities. Annual membership is secured by means of a tax deductible grant of $300 to the CRC. Since the Center is not budgeted by the State or the University, these funds are used to provide seed money for educational and research activities and to defray overhead costs associated with the Center's operation.
