Scholarships for Entering Freshmen

Alumni Scholarship

This scholarship is available to undergraduate and graduate students. Eligibility is based upon academic achievement and financial need. Amount of the award varies based upon qualifications of the applicants and availability of funds.

Gene H. Carter/John J. Burgess Civil Engineering Scholarship

This $10,000 scholarship becomes available every four years and is awarded in annual increments of $2,500. Selection criteria include being admitted unconditionally to the civil engineering program, GPA, strength of course work, aptitude and achievement scores, and sustained involvement in worthwhile activities. Financial need may be considered.

Halff Associates Scholarship

This $2,000 scholarship is renewable for 3 years in annual increments of $2,000. Applicants must have a minimum SAT of 1100 or ACT of 27 and a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (grades 10 - 12).

Freese and Nichols Scholarship

This $8,000 scholarship becomes available every four years. It is awarded in annual increments of $2,000. Applicants must have a minimum SAT of 1100 or ACT of 27, a minimum high school GPA of 3.0 (grades 10-12), be a resident of the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex, and must agree to participate in Freese and Nichols professional development activities.

John J. Haynes Scholarship

Eligible students are undergraduates who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, have unconditional admission to the civil engineering program, and have demonstrated an aptitude for academic success in engineering. Amount of award varies with qualifications of applicants and available funds.

V. T. Hancock Texas Water Utilities Association Environmental Scholarship

Eligible students are undergraduates who have unconditional admission to the civil engineering program and demonstrate an aptitude for success in engineering. Selection will be based upon grade point average, strength of course work, aptitude and achievement scores, and significant and sustained involvement in worthwhile activities. Financial need may be considered. Current members, spouses, or children of members of the following district associations of the TWUA will be given preference over non-members: Apollo, Blacklands, Metrocrest, Mid-Cities, North Central Texas, Texoma Land, Twin Basin, White Rock, and North Texas Chapter/Laboratory Analysis Section. Amount of award varies.
