Shahed Manzur, Ph.D. candidate in Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering, was recently awarded Air & Waste Management Association (A&WMA) scholarship for 'Waste Management Research and Study' for academic year, 2012-2013. The scholarship was awarded to Shahed at A&WMA's 105th Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas in recognition of his academic excellence and professionalism in the field of solid waste management. Shahed is currently working on his PhD dissertation entitled "Hydraulic Performance Evaluation of Different Leachate Recirculation Systems in an Enhanced Leachate Recirculation (ELR) or Bioreactor Landfill." Shahed's research work is sponsored by the City of Denton, Texas.
Mohammad Sadik Khan, Ph.D. student in Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering, was recently awarded Second prize for his presentation on "Field Performance of a Highway Slope in Texas Reinforced with Recycled Plastic Pins" at the Texas Section Spring Centennial Conference in Corpus Christi, Texas, March 19-23, 2013.
Sadik's research work is sponsored by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).
Sonia Samir, Ph.D. student in Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering, was recently awarded the Provost's Award for her presentation on "Feasibility of Landfill Mining and Reclamation in a Closed Landfill" at the UTA Annual Celebration of Excellence by Students (ACES) 2013.
