Dr. Hyeok Choi joined the Department of Civil Engineering of the University of Texas at Arlington as an assistant professor on September 1, 2009. He earned his B.S/M.S in Civil Engineering at Sungkyunkwan University, Seoul, Korea in 2000, and Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering at University of Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Ohio in 2007 with a major research concentration on environmental nanotechnologies for water and wastewater treatment. Before joining UTA, Dr. Choi was a postdoctoral research fellow of the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education, working at the National Risk Management Research Laboratory of US Environmental Protection Agency, where he further enhanced his research career in the development of innovative nanomaterials for the remediation of contaminated groundwater, soil and sediment. He collaborated on many environmental research projects with academic institutions in USA and worldwide, governmental agencies, and industries. His research on physiochemical processes for water and wastewater treatment and environmental nanotechnologies for environmental remediation contributed to the understanding of challenging environmental problems and development of cleanup strategies based on sound science. As a steward of the environment, Dr. Choi has dedicated himself to improvement of environmental quality through multidisciplinary research, teaching, and education. He is author or co-author of 32 journal articles, 2 book chapters, and 100 presentations, which required collaboration with people with various disciplines in chemistry, biology, materials science, chemical engineering, and civil and environmental engineering. |
