CUIRE Holds Successful Training Schools On January 22 and 23, 2012, the Center for Underground Infrastructure Research and Education (CUIRE) at the Department of Civil Engineering (www.cuire.org) held successful trenchless technology certification schools in San Antonio, Texas. These Schools were held in conjunction with Underground Construction Technology (UCT) and Exhibition (www.uctonline.com) held on January 24-26. More than 30 pipeline professionals form across U.S., Canada, Italy, and Australia, attended these Schools on the following topics. As part of their registration with CUIRE, they received a full complimentary registration to UCT. Mud School for Trenchless Technology Methods© This School provided attendees everything they need to know to properly mix and apply drilling fluids for trenchless applications, including spoil removal and lubrication applications. Pipe School© This School presented applications, advantages and limitations of each type of pipe, such as ductile iron, vitrified clay, PVC, HDPE, fiberglass, etc. and new development in pipe materials and jointing systems. Geotechnical School© This School presented geotechnical requirements for both trenchless and open-cut applications. All methods of subsurface explorations, both in the office/lab and in the field, such as utility locating, subsurface utility engineering (SUE), geophysical methods, and geological, and soil boring and laboratory testing will be discussed. Advanced Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) School© This School provided pipe lining (rehabilitation, renewal) and replacement for old and deteriorating pipelines using trenchless technology methods, including CIPP, pipe bursting, and sliplining. Design, construction, inspection, and QA/QC methods were discussed. Pipe Lining & Replacement School© This School provided pipe lining (rehabilitation, renewal) and replacement for old and deteriorating pipelines using trenchless technology methods, including CIPP, pipe bursting, and sliplining. Design, construction, inspection, and QA/QC methods were discussed. Pipe Jacking and Microtunneling School© This School provided conventional pipe jacking, as well as horizontal auger boring, pipe ramming, and culvert applications. Focusing on technical and engineering applications, topics included: Design Concepts Bidding Data Evaluation Technologies, Site Surveys Application Assessment Water, Sewer, Gas & Cable Applications Contract Documents and Specifications Construction QA/QC Program Project Delivery System Alternatives Strategies for Risk Assessment & Allocations Recent Regulations New Equipment & Methods Case Studies For more information, please contact Dr. Mohammad Najafi, CUIRE Director, at 817-272-0507 or najafi@uta.edu |
