Shahed Manzur, a Ph.D. candidate in Geotechnical & Geoenvironmental Engineering, was recently awarded Air & Waste Management Association (AWMA) scholarship for "Waste Management Research and Study" for upcoming academic year, 2012-2013. The scholarship was awarded to Shahed at AWMA's 105th Annual Conference & Exhibition in San Antonio, Texas in recognition of his academic excellence and professionalism in the field of solid waste management. ![]() Shahed along with Merlyn L. Hough, President , AWMA (Left); Dr. Raghavan Ramanan, Director, AWMA (Right) Shahed is currently working on his PhD dissertation entitled "Hydraulic Performance Evaluation of Different Leachate Recirculation Systems in an Enhanced Leachate Recirculation (ELR) or Bioreactor Landfill" under supervision of CE Associate Professor, Dr. Sahadat Hossain. His research work includes field experiment, laboratory experiments and numerical modeling, and is sponsored by the City of Denton, Texas. The scholarship was awarded based on the preliminary findings of his PhD research work. Recently two of Shahed's papers were accepted for presentation and publication to Geotechnical Special Publications (GSP), GeoCongress 2012, Oakland, CA in March 2012. Previously, he was also the recipient of NSF CMMI 2011 Student Participation Award held at Atlanta, GA. |
