Shahed is currently working on his PhD dissertation entitled "Hydraulic Performance Evaluation of Different Leachate Recirculation Systems in an Enhanced Leachate Recirculation (ELR) or Bioreactor Landfill" under supervision of CE Associate Professor, Dr. Sahadat Hossain. His research work includes field experiment, laboratory experiments and numerical modeling, and is sponsored by the City of Denton, Texas. The scholarship was awarded based on the preliminary findings of his PhD research work. Recently two of Shahed's papers were accepted for presentation and publication to Geotechnical Special Publications (GSP), GeoCongress 2012, Oakland, CA in March 2012. Previously, he was also the recipient of NSF CMMI 2011 Student Participation Award held at Atlanta, GA.
